Omaha Hold'em Poker

Omaha Hold'Em is a similar table game to Texas Hold'Em, involving a number of 'community cards' which can be used to form a winning hand by all players on the table and a number of personal cards, which are being dealt face down before the betting begins.

Basic Omaha Rules

First every player receives four cards which are placed face-down on the table. The players view their cards and the first round of betting proceeds.
Once the first round of betting is done, the dealer places three community cards face-up on the table. The players go through another round of betting.
Another community card is dealt, followed by another round of betting.
The fifth and last of the community cards is dealt and there is a final round of betting.

If more than one player are left in the game by the end of the fourth and final round of betting, the showdown comes into play. However, an Omaha showdown has stricter rules than the showdown of any other kind of stud poker. The player must form his best hand using two of his private cards and three of the community cards. This rule must be obeyed, even if the player could potentially form an even better hand with four of his own cards and one of the community cards (or any other different combination) - which makes the showdown rule the most challenging part of the game.

Omaha showdown has stricter rules than the showdown of any other kind of stud poker.

Omaha Eight Or Better (Omaha Hi-Lo)

In this version of Omaha Hold'Em the pot (the accumulated betting stakes) is split into two pots, one to be won by the highest hand and one to be won by the lowest hand. Again the player is allowed to use two of his four hole cards and three of the community cards to form his highest and lowest possible hands - and they are allowed to double up, you may use the same card in the high and the low hand.
The rules for the highest hand adhere to standard poker hand values. The rules for the low hand are a little different:
For a qualifying low hand a player needs to be able to play a 8-7-6-5-4 or lower. An Ace is considered a low card when it comes to playing a low hand, in fact Ace and 2 are the best cards to have when hunting for a low hand.

It is possible for a player to win both, the high and the low pot, in one game.
In order for the players to have a chance of forming a qualifying low hand, there need to be at least three cards valued 8 or lower in the community cards, as three of them need to be used in any qualifying hand, be it high or low.
Doubles and streets are bad news when you are trying to form a low hand. Two pairs of 2s for example, which is low card on its own, do not make a qualifying low hand as it forms a qualifying high poker hand.
